UMH AND CONSELLERIA OF TRANSPARENCY SIGN A UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION PROJECT AGREEMENT

The rector of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), Jesús Pastor Ciurana, and the Conseller of Transparency, Social Responsibility, Participation and Cooperation at the Generalitat Valenciana, Manuel Alcaraz, have renewed a collaboration agreement to implement the University Development Cooperation Project, which corresponds to 2018 and will remain in vigor until the end of 2019. The budget for this agreement renewal is 130,000 euros, which will fund various activities. Vicente Micol, UMH Vice Rector for International Relations, also attended the agreement signing.

Specifically, UMH activities contemplated in the agreement include calls for grants for students of the Master’s in Development Cooperation program and final program projects on this topic. Also planned are training courses directed primarily at both high school teachers and university faculty alike. This agreement will once again provide funding for the UMH international development cooperation project ongoing in Rwanda.  

Furthermore, with this agreement, workshops to foster volunteerism are also planned, in addition to a “Winter University” in collaboration with the five public Valencian Community universities. A call will be announced for research work on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, projects will be carried out in the field on issues such as the promotion of gender equality based on initiatives oriented at achieving incomes for rural women in Colombia, in addition to soil conservation, sustainable management, and local development in the Dindefelo Natural Community Reserve in Senegal.
