UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair teaches a course on cardiology at Nemba Hospital

The UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has taught a specialized course on cardiology at Nemba Hospital in Rwanda. Participating in it were seven general practitioners from Nemba Hospital, Ruhengeri District Hospital, as well as the hospitals of Rutongo and Ruli. Francisco Colomina Climent, an honorary collaborator from the UMH Department of Clinical Medicine, was responsible for giving the course.

Over two weeks of training, the participating professionals were able to gain practical and theoretical knowledge necessary for performing a systematic reading and interpretation of a patient’s electrocardiogram, a fundamental element in making a diagnosis in cardiology. To accomplish this, the professionals completed several theoretical and practical exercises. The course also presented its students with theoretical knowledge on Doppler echocardiography, a technique that enables observing a live beating heart. This course’s training is considered an essential element within the development plan of the ICU at Nemba Hospital.

According to Francisco Colomina, the participating physicians demonstrated a high degree of personal involvement throughout the course, so continuing this kind of training in the form of online sessions was requested, aimed at discussing and analyzing cases from the participants’ clinical practice.
