\"\"<\/a>On September 10, tropical cyclone Daniel hit land in northeast Libya with winds of 70 to 80 km\/hr and dropping between 150 and 240 mm of torrential rain. This caused flash floods that led to the failure of two river dams near the coastal city of Derna. On the morning of September 11, its population awoke to a loud noise following the collapse of the dams. In just 30 minutes, rushing water destroyed everything in its path. Thousands of people have been left homeless and have lost everything. The Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH) is firmly committed to lending its support behind the NGOs that have activated their emergency protocols and are providing essential products and medical services for thousands of people who require humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n

The Unit of Development Cooperation and Volunteerism hereby informs readers of the various channels to make donations to help cover current basic needs of the population affects and the subsequent reconstruction of the areas with the greatest structural damage. Several Valencian Community entities are also responding to the people who need humanitarian assistance. The situation Libya is going through is very tragic, the flooding has severely polluted sources of water there, making it unsafe for human consumption, and exposing the communities to severe risks.
