UMH and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill strengthen ties to advance future collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/strong>The Deputy Vice Rector for International Projection and Communication, Jos\u00e9 Luis Gonz\u00e1lez-Esteban, met yesterday at the UMH with Ylce Irizarry, from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with the objective of strengthening ties between both entities and advancing future collaboration of interest for both parties.<\/p>\n

Other individuals present at the meeting included UMH professor of literature, Joaqu\u00edn Juan Penalva, in addition to retired UMH professor, Armando Migu\u00e9lez. At the meeting, the American university representative gave a presentation at the Pla\u00e7a de Baix entitled, \u201cMapping the Latinx Diasporic Ecogothic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Irizarry is an associate professor at UNC Chapel Hill, where she specializes in the Chicanx and Latinx narrative, ecocriticism, and visual rhetorics. Her book, \u201cChicana\/o and Latina\/o Fiction: The New Memory of Latinidad,\u201d received awards from the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies in 2018. Her interviews and essays have also appeared in numerous prestigious North American magazines.<\/p>\n
