<\/a><\/span>From May 11 – 13, 2026, around 200 people gathered at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm, Sweden, for The European University of Brain and Technology (NeurotechEU) event, the Neuroinnovation Summit & NeurotechEU General Assembly. This event was held under the motto, \u201cNext Generation \u2013 Skills, Talent, Careers & Innovation,\u201d and its attendees were comprised of students and staff from the NeurotechEU alliance. Members of the delegation from the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH) included Vice Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation, Vicente Micol; the NeurotechEU leader at the UMH and Director of the UMH-CSIC Institute of Neurosciences, Juana Gallar; in addition to the Director of the Service of International Relations and Cooperation, Inmaculada Blaya.<\/p>\nOther UMH attendees at the General Assembly consisted of the Director of International Promotion and Director of the Center for Translational Research in Physiotherapy, Mar\u00eda del Carmen Lillo; and Deputy Vice Rector for Institutional Position & Rankings, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Blanes. UMH faculty involved in the creation of teaching content for NeurotechEU and present in Stockholm included professor of physiology, V\u00edctor Meseguer; professor of medicine, \u00c1ngel C. P\u00e9rez Sempere; and investigator at the Institute of Neurosciences, Silvia de Santis. Moreover, NeurotechEU project manager, Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Such; experts in quality management, Virginia Garc\u00eda and Sonia Mart\u00edn; expert in new learning models, Anna Mura; head of NeurotechEU communication at the UMH, J\u00falia Santacreu; and representatives of UMH students at the NeurotechEU Student Council, B\u00e1rbara Corral, Desir\u00e9e Gracia, and Jorge Maldonado, also took part.<\/p>\n
The General Assembly concluded with a meeting of the NeurotechEU Student Council, during which members discussed strategies to ensure student participation throughout the second phase of the alliance. Following the meeting, the students attended a social event organized by and for them, in their capacity as representatives of the various universities in the consortium.<\/p>\n
In parallel with the NeurotechEU Board of Rectors Meeting and General Assembly, Karolinska Institutet also hosted the annual Neuroinnovation Summit. This summit addressed integrating neurotechnology into healthcare and commercialization pathways for research innovations. Representing the UMH was Silvia de Santis, an investigator at the Institute of Neurosciences\u2014a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the UMH. At the summit, she presented the paper, \u201cFrom Diffusion MRI to Virtual Histology: Tracking Neuronal and Glial Changes in Ageing and Alzheimer\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n
NeurotechEU is a European university co-funded by the European Commission that is working to create a higher education and research hub focused on neurotechnology, with the aim of providing solutions to health issues related to neuroscience and mental health through affordable technologies. Besides the UMH, the NeurotechEU alliance includes eight other universities. They include Radboud University, the Netherlands; Karolinska Institutet, Sweden; University of Bonn, Germany; Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University, T\u00fcrkiye; Universitatea de Medicin\u0103 \u0219i Farmacie din Cluj-Napoca, Romania; University of Lille, France; University of Reykjavik, Iceland; and the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria.<\/p>\n
