<\/a>According to the Times Higher Education<\/em> Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026 (previously THE Impact Rankings<\/em>), the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH) is sixth among all Spanish universities with the greatest social impact. Worldwide, the UMH sits in the 301\u2013400 range in an assessment that measures how universities advance sustainability in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\nThis rating also measures universities\u2019 success in delivering each individual United Nations\u2019 Sustainable Development Goal, and worldwide for four of the SDGs, the UMH sits in the 101-200 range. These include SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy; SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth; SDG 9, Industry Innovation and Infrastructure; and SDG 10, Reduced Inequality. And worldwide, for the next range, 201-300, the UMH delivers for SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 5, Gender Equality; SDG 13, Climate Action; and SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.<\/p>\n
One of the most notable results for the 2026 rating is the UMH\u2019s Spanish leadership in SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy. Here, Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez ranks first among Spanish universities and it sits in the 101\u2013200 range globally. This result recognizes the university\u2019s contribution to clean energy, energy efficiency, and its commitment to a sustainable energy transition.<\/p>\n
In addition to this Spanish leadership, the UMH achieves particularly notable results within the Spanish university system as a whole\u2014the UMH ranks second within Spain for SDG 2, Zero Hunger; third for SDG 1, No Poverty; SDG 10, Reduced Inequalities; and SDG 14, Life Below Water. The UMH sits fourth for SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation; and SDG 15, Life on Land.<\/p>\n
At the regional level in Spain, the UMH once again sits among the top Valencian universities in this international ranking. Although the 2026 ratings only assessed two universities from the Valencian autonomous community, the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche is first regionally for its success in delivering eleven of the Sustainable Development Goals. This result reinforces the UMH role as a leading Valencian university in sustainability, social responsibility, and regional impact.<\/p>\n
More specifically, the UMH is tops within the Valencian Community for SDG 1, No Poverty; SDG 2, Zero Hunger; SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 4, Quality Education; SDG 5, Gender Equality; SDG 6, Clean Water and Sanitation; SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy; SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities; SDG 14, Life Below Water; SDG 15, Life on Land; and SDG 16, Peace Justice and Strong Institutions.<\/p>\n
The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings analyzes universities\u2019 contributions to the United Nations\u2019 17 Sustainable Development Goals based on indicators related to research, teaching, institutional management, and social impact. The 2026 edition evaluated 1,646 universities from 116 countries and territories, using a global ranking and specific tables for each Sustainable Development Goal.<\/p>\n
