Sports and cooperation come together at UMH in a congress with athletes who took part at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

Yesterday, April 3, Arenals Hall at the UMH was host for the first Sports for Social Change Congress, an event that was inaugurated by Vice Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation, Vicente Micol; Director General for Inclusion and Development Cooperation at the Generalitat Valenciana, Pedro Carceller; and delegate from the Vicente Ferrer Foundation (FVF) for the autonomous Valencian Community, Sergio Moratón.

This event was organized by UMH Rector Delegate for Healthy Campuses and Athletics, Raúl Reina, along with the FVF, and it featured the presence of Sara Aller, a Paralympic athlete at the 2024 Paris games, in addition to Patricia Campos, the founder of the educational project, Goals for Freedom. There were joined by other individuals as well, and they all spoke about their personal experiences.

Throughout the morning, congress speakers reflected on the importance of sports and cooperation for bringing people together, and on the impact that sporting activities have upon the development of countries.

Along these lines, Micol highlighted the role of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation for being a “benchmark for cooperation,” while Carceller praised the UMH for “creating meeting spaces like this to foster development cooperation.”

With this initiative, the UMH contributes to various Sustainable Development Goals from the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, and especially #3, Good Health and Well-Being; #10, Reduced Inequalities; #16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and #17, Partnerships for the Goals.
