More than 50 UMH community members begin efforts helping areas hit by flash flooding
23 December 2024
This week, the UMH Volunteers for a Day initiative began with participation by over fifty members of the Miguel Hernández University community to help in areas affected by the severe October flash flooding regain some sense of normalcy.
More specifically, thirty-three individuals traveled to Paiporta, one of the areas hit hardest, to classify cleaning products and other necessary supplies that were donated and sent there to aid the people affected by the flooding. To this number of volunteers, another twenty-one people spent the Saturday prior collaborating with the entity of Mensajeros de la paz (Messengers of Peace).
During the month of January, this volunteering initiative will continue, aiming to help the affected areas return to normalcy as fast as humanly possible.
The Vice Rectorate for Internationalization and Cooperation at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche expressed gratitude for the commitment by everyone who shared their time by going to Paiporta.
