For two days last week (January 30 & 31), the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) took part in the eighth edition of the University of the Fall, the motto of which was ‘Bridges toward Global Equity: Sustainable Development and Human Well-being.’ The Universitat Politècnica de València was host to this event, and this event’s workshops reflected on the role of universities as an agent for fostering sustainability in development processes.
This event, which was attended by all five public Valencian Universities, began on Thursday with UMH Vice Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation, Vicente Micol, in addition to the remaining public representatives. This was followed by a conference by ecofeminist activist, Joana Bregolat, who spoke on climate justice and human well-being.
This first day concluded with a roundtable on innovation and technology to contribute to global equity, moderated by the director of the UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair, Javier Gimeno. Following that, there was a practical workshop on development cooperation and climate emergencies.
Day two began with a chat on sustainable health systems given by doctor of agricultural engineering, María Jesús Muñoz-Torres. This was following by a conference on sustainable development within a context wherein resources decrease, and then a roundtable on human well-being in which UMH graduate of medicine, Esther García, took part.
These sessions aim to exchange experience and knowledge on issues of inclusive and sustainable well-being, and stressing aspects relevant to development cooperation, on national, autonomous, and even local levels.
