UMH and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill strengthen ties to advance future collaboration

 The Deputy Vice Rector for International Projection and Communication, José Luis González-Esteban, met yesterday at the UMH with Ylce Irizarry, from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with the objective of strengthening ties between both entities and advancing future collaboration of interest for both parties.

Other individuals present at the meeting included UMH professor of literature, Joaquín Juan Penalva, in addition to retired UMH professor, Armando Miguélez. At the meeting, the American university representative gave a presentation at the Plaça de Baix entitled, “Mapping the Latinx Diasporic Ecogothic.”

Irizarry is an associate professor at UNC Chapel Hill, where she specializes in the Chicanx and Latinx narrative, ecocriticism, and visual rhetorics. Her book, “Chicana/o and Latina/o Fiction: The New Memory of Latinidad,” received awards from the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies in 2018. Her interviews and essays have also appeared in numerous prestigious North American magazines.
