UMH hosts conference on armed conflicts that brings together professionals from journalism, international politics and cooperation

On November 13, 14, and 15, Atzavares Hall and the Plaça de Baix of the UMH is hosting the inaugural ‘Armed Conflicts, Cooperation and Human Rights International Development Cooperation Conference.’ This activity is bringing together professionals from journalism, international politics, and human rights.

This conference is free to attend, both online and in-person, and it will begin with presentations by journalist specialized in international information, Olga Rodriguez; freelance photojournalist in Ukraine, Pablo Miranzo; and the beneficiaries of the RSF-UMH Elche Safe Space for Freedom of the Press program, Efren Lemus and Laura Ardila.

On Wednesday afternoon, Miranzo is inaugurating the ‘War in Ukraine’ exhibition, which highlights the devastating effects the conflict has had on the Ukrainian civilian population.

On Thursday, the main themes are geopolitics, human rights, and cooperation. It features analyst, Alejandro López; Amnesty International member, Carlos Escaño; and representatives from the Red Cross and Medicus Mundi, among others.

Then, on Friday, the event is being closed by professor of political communication at Rey Juan Carlos University, Casandra López. She will speak about the election results in the United States. Then up is economist and expert in international relations and the Arab-Muslim world, Jesús Núñez.

This conference is being offered by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, the Elche City Council, and Coordinadora Valenciana de ONGD, in collaboration with the Ryszard Kapuscinski Seminar on Journalism and Human Rights of the UMH and the Chair of Audiovisual Analysis and Prospective.

Throughout the event, its speakers will discuss armed conflicts, divulging the necessary tools to those in attendance for learning about and understanding their contexts, via the words of experts, on the causes and consequences of armed conflicts around the world, identifying the role of international cooperation for achieving peace in conflict zones.
