Second group of UMH volunteers arrive in Rwanda to stay until mid-August
21 July 2025
The second group of volunteers from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has arrived in Rwanda. They are to remain there until mid-August, and while there, will focus on, among other issues, occupational risks and mental health.
More specifically during this, the second part of the 12th edition, this group of volunteers is going to teach a course on the basic principles of construction projects, drafting and reviewing occupational risk projects and emergency plans, provide mental health support, conduct laboratory work, practice internal medicine at Nemba Hospital, as well as teach aspects of health & hygiene and mental health for an association of teenage mothers.
The July & August volunteer group aims to build upon the work carried out by the first group of June volunteers. The earlier group provided training on artificial intelligence tools, software, web design, waste management, reusable sanitary pads, communication and leadership, the female reproductive system, contraceptive methods, plus healthcare research.
This international development cooperation volunteering program of the UMH in Rwanda instills participants with theoretical and practical knowledge, and then they perform development cooperation activities within the African country. All UMH community groups—faculty, researchers, staff, students, and alumni—are eligible to participate and this program receives funding from the Generalitat Valenciana.
