UMH presents its academic offer to over 600 Bulgarian students at Study in Spain Fair in Sofia

INTERNATIONALIZATION

26 February 2026

During the week of February 16 – 20, 2026, the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) participated at the Study in Spain Fair held in Sofia, Bulgaria. This event was organized by the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE) in collaboration with the Education Office at the Spanish Embassy in Bulgaria.

UMH representatives at the event included Inmaculada Blaya, Director of the Service of International Relations and Cooperation, along with África Martínez, Director of Mobility. The event was aimed at Bulgarian final-year high school students enrolled in bilingual programs in Spanish and Bulgarian who are interested in pursuing their university studies in Spain, particularly at the UMH.

Throughout the fair, over 600 students learned about the academics and services offered at the UMH, with a special focus on UMH degree programs that stand out for their educational quality and the broad career opportunities they afford their graduates.

Attending these kinds of events enables the UMH to recruit foreign students by speaking to them on a one-on-one basis, and the information that is transmitted in this manner enables them to make informed decisions about their higher education futures.

During their stay in Sofia, the UMH representatives also attended an alumni event organized by SEPIE and hosted at the Spanish Embassy by Spain’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Miguel Alonso Berrio. This gathering provided an opportunity to share experiences and strengthen connections between former students—both from the UMH and other universities—and their respective institutions, fostering closer academic and professional ties.

Through these initiatives, the UMH consolidates its commitment to international outreach, attracting foreign talent, and promoting academic mobility, thereby fostering educational and cultural exchange between Spain and Bulgaria.
