Twelve undergraduate students of occupational therapy and physiotherapy at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) will train at pediatric oncology units linked to Gomel State Medical University (GSMU) in Belarus thanks to an agreement reached between the UMH and GSMU. This action is part of the mobility actions carried out by the Vice Rectorate for International Relations along with the Belarusian university that have been made possible by such collaboration agreement signed by both institutions.
On October 30, five occupational therapy students will travel to Gomel where they will stay for three months while they complete external internships at hospitals linked to the GSMU, specifically in pediatric oncology units. Then, starting in 2019, an additional five students, three in occupational therapy and two in physiotherapy, will also undergo their internships in Gomel hospitals. During their stays, the students will join work groups where they will hone the functions and skills from their professions with different population and social groups.
Furthermore, the UMH also participated in the International Scientific Conference held at the GSMU on October 25. In that conference, UMH Deputy Vice Rector for Institutional Relations, Miriam Hurtado, along with the director of the Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation and Volunteerism, Inma Blaya, presented the UMH Healthy project in addition to describing internationalization experiences along with the Belarusian university.
During their stay, the UMH representatives also met with GSMU authorities with the aim of promoting new mobility actions, and they toured the medical facilities where the occupational therapy and physiotherapy students will practice. They also attended a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Vasily Zharko, and the GSMU rector.
