CHICANO POET TINO VILLANUEVA, UMH DOCTOR HONORIS CAUSA, FEATURED IN GLOBAL UMH MAGAZINE

The Vice Rectorate for International Relations at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has published a new issue of Global UMH magazine to coincide with the start of the current school year. This issue features the conferral of Tino Villanueva as Doctor Honoris Causa by the UMH in an act that took place during the previous school year’s closing ceremony. Villanueva is a retired Senior Lecturer from Boston University (USA) and a distinguished poet on the Chicano movement in the United States.

The nomination of Tino Villanueva was proposed by the UMH Vice Rectorate for International Relations in collaboration with the Area of US Hispanic Studies and the Department of Social and Human Sciences. This issue also highlights the celebration of the Ryszard Kapuscinski International Seminar on Journalism, Human Rights, Migration and Borders, which was organized by the aforementioned Vice Rectorate, as well as International Staff Week and other events related to the international projection of this university.

Global UMH magazine is published in both Spanish and English and is directed by Associate Professor José Luis González. Journalists Lis Gaibar and Estefanía Moreno are responsible for the magazine’s writing and editing, and Paul Nordstrom, from the Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation and Volunteerism, is tasked with its translation into English.
