Students from Dominican Republic may apply for international grants to enroll in 20 UMH master’s programs

The Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) is one of 60 international universities wherein students from the Dominican Republic are eligible to enroll in graduate level training. This initiative is part of the 2021 call for international grants by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) from that Caribbean country, which will offer more than 1700 grants for the internationalization of Dominican students.

The aim of the Dominican government is to encourage training in areas that include innovation, tourism, technology, basic science, education, and engineering. Thus, Dominican students will be able to enroll in these 20 official master’s programs offered at the UMH: Agricultural Engineering; Agro-Food Technology and Quality; Biotechnology and Bioengineering; Business Administration and Management; Computational Statistics and Data Science for Decision Making; Crime Analysis and Prevention; HVAC and Electrical Facilities. UMH participation in this call is part of the Elche institution’s internationalization strategy in the Dominican Republic by way of various actions that have taken place in recent months. Standing out among these initiatives is the agreement to establish collaboration between the MESCyT, Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), and the UMH in the Doctorate of Agri-Food Sciences offered by the Faculty of Agronomic and Veterinary Sciences at the UASD.

Furthermore, UMH Vice Rector for International Relations, Vicente Micol, and the director of the Ibero-America Espejo Program, Joaquín Julián Pastor, have met with representatives from public and private universities to consolidate academic and training links. These universities include the Universidad Dominicana O&M, Universidad Federico Henríquez y Carvajal (UFHEC), Universidad Eugenio María de Hostos (UNIREMHOS), Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), and the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU).
