UMH participates in 8th NeurotechEU Board of Rectors meeting in Istanbul

The Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) participated in the 8th Board of Rectors meeting​ of NeurotechEU in Istanbul, Türkiye, along with top European universities.

Aiming to consolidate the integration of The European University of Brain and Technology–NeurotechEU, the university member of this European alliance, Boğaziçi University, hosted this event.

Representatives of the UMH included its Vice Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation, Vicente Micol; the leader of the project at the UMH & Director of the Institute of Neurosciences (UMH-CSIC), Juana Gallar; as well as the Director of the Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation, and Volunteerism & member of the NeurotechEU Board of Governors, Inmaculada Blaya. The director of the Center for Translational Research in Physiotherapy, María del Carmen Lillo, also accompanied them at this meeting. Her role was as an active participant in the work package dedicated to fostering empowerment of university students and staff.

Moreover, the UMH delegation also included the rector delegate of the Healthy Campus and member of the work group on equal opportunities and integration, Raúl Reina; the rector delegate for Digital Transformation, Federico Botella, who is also an active member of the work group for the Campus+ educational platform of NeurotechEU; Deputy Vice Rector for Institutional Position & Rankings, José Manuel Blanes, who is also a member of the work group that fosters mobility among alliance partner universities; and investigator from the UMH Brain-Machine Interface Systems Lab, Eduardo Iañez, who is also a participant in the work group dedicated to advance the academic program in alliance neurotechnology. The final attendees at the Board of Rectors meeting on behalf of the UMH were project managers, María José Such, expert in quality assurance, and Sonia Martin, as well as communication technician, Julia Santacreu.

The second edition of the NeurotechEU Hackathon also transpired at the Bord of Rectors meetings. Participants in it included Desirée Garcia, who is a representative of the Student Council that is formed by UMH students at Neurotech, in addition to winner of the 3-MinuteThesis Competition at the UMH, Jesica Martínez.

The European alliance that is NeurotechEU aims to provide the scientific community with higher education and research focused on neurotechnology, the goal of which is addressing health issues related to neuroscience and mental health through affordable technologies. Besides the UMH, the NeurotechEU alliance includes seven other universities: Radboud University, the Netherlands; Karolinska Institutet, Sweden; Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Germany; Boğaziçi University, Türkiye; Universitatea de Medicină și Farmacie din Cluj-Napoca, Romania; University of Lille, France; and the University of Reykjavik, Iceland.
