On Friday, September 19, the in-person session of Welcome Days, held on this occasion in Altabix Hall on the Elche Campus, brought together close to 100 incoming students from different mobility programs who are going to be learning within Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) classrooms during fall semester.

This successful turnout adds to and raises the bar set in previous editions of Welcome Days for incoming students. This event, held twice each year, is put together by the Vice Rectorate for Internationalization and Cooperation in conjunction with the Service of International Relations and Cooperation.

To start the event, UMH Director of Mobility, África Martínez, welcomed the students and encouraged them to actively participate in activities at the UMH and to take full advantage of their time here.

Students in attendance hailed from many countries, including Italy, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Romania, China, Austria, Chile, and Ukraine. About half of those in attendance are learning at the UMH on Erasmus+ exchanges, while the remainders are here thanks to the Destino, SICUE, and Buddy programs.

Throughout the Welcome Days event, the students learned about some of the services available to them at the university. Participating services and offices included the Language Center, Athletics, UMH Life, Libraries, Occupational Observatory, Club Erasmus, Office of Culture, Equality, Diversity, and Languages.

The event concluded with a brunch for the incoming students. This afforded them an opportunity to get to know one another better, plus share anecdotes and experiences from their first days at the UMH. This event aims to bring the UMH and university life closer to these new students from Spanish, European, and other international universities, to help facilitate their integration during the periods of time that they are going to spend here.
