Fifty incoming students discover the secrets of nougat and the holidays at Jijona Christmas Fair
5 December 2025
On December 4, the UMH Club Erasmus enjoyed a field trip with incoming Erasmus, Destino, and SICUE students to the city of Jijona. While there, they learned about the secrets to making various types of nougat (turrón), they visited the Jijona Christmas Fair, as well as other representative locations of that municipality.
The adventure began with a visit to the Hijos de Manuel Picó nougat factory to learn how it is made and exported all over Spain during the Christmas season. Afterwards, they toured the city of Jijona and its most famous historical sites before inaugurating the Jijona Christmas Fair, one of the most renowned holiday stops within the Province of Alicante.
This fair is well-known for the demonstrations given by master nougat makers there, and for cultural visits and gastronomic tours in surrounding Jijona, and these very activities delighted the UMH incoming students during their field trip there.
Yesterday’s getaway added to the events that have been offered by the Club Erasmus so far during the current 2025-2026 school year. In November, these students could take part in the International Brunch, and that too was notable due to the positive atmosphere and warm reception by these students, affording them a space to meet new people from different cultures.
