On Friday, September 4, 2026, the in-person session of Welcome Days, held in the Aula Magna of Altabix Hall on the Elche Campus, brought together nearly 200 incoming students from different exchange programs who are going to be studying this semester at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH).

This high level of participation builds on and reinforces the success achieved in previous welcome days for incoming students, reaffirming this institution’s commitment to welcoming and integrating international students. The event was organized by the Vice Rectorate for Internationalization and Cooperation along with the Service of International Relations and Cooperation.

To start the event, both the UMH Vice Rector for Internationalization and Cooperation, Vicente Micol, and the Director of Mobility, África Martínez, welcomed the students and encouraged them to participate in the activities organized by the UMH and to enjoy the experience to the fullest.

The students in attendance hailed from many different countries, and they included Argentina, China, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Peru, and Romania, among others. Close to half of the students in attendance are at the UMH on Erasmus+ exchanges, while the rest are taking part in Destino, SICUE, and Buddy programs.

Throughout this event, the exchange students learned firsthand about the university’s main services and resources available to them. University units participating at this event included the Language Center, Office of Healthy Campuses and Athletics, UMH Life, and the Library. Also present were the Occupational Observatory, Club Erasmus, and the Office of Culture, Equality, Diversity, and the Language Office.

This event culminated with a brunch, and this space provided a space for the incoming students to get to know one another better, exchange experiences, and share anecdotes about their first days at the UMH.

With Welcome Days, the university aims to familiarize new students with the UMH and the campus life here. These students have traveled from other universities in Spain, Europe, and other continents too. The goal of this event is to welcome them and help them integrate into the university community during their exchange period.
