A total of 55 scientists affiliated with the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) and the Institute of Neurosciences (a joint UMH-CSIC center) are among the most-cited researchers internationally, according to Stanford University’s “Top 2% Scientists list,” which is published by the academic publisher, Elsevier, and based on data extracted from the Scopus bibliographic database.

This international ranking evaluates the impact of scientific output using bibliometric indicators. The so-called “C index” combines citations received, the h-index, and other indicators that consider co-authorship and author order in publications. The database provides metrics both with and without self-citations and allows for comparisons of researchers’ impact within their respective scientific fields.

The inclusion in these rankings reflects the international visibility of research associated with the UMH and the Institute of Neurosciences in disciplines that include medicine, neuroscience, food technology, engineering, and mathematics.

For the edition published in October 2026, two separate lists were compiled: one reflects the cumulative impact throughout the entire research career up to 2025, and the other analyzes citations received in 2025. The selection includes the 100,000 investigators with the highest C-index, with or without self-citations, as well as those ranked within the top 2% of their scientific subfield. In the case of the UMH, 38 individuals appear on the lifetime impact list and 41 do so on the annual impact list; 24 appear on both lists, bringing the total (excluding duplicates) to 55.

Listed next, in alphabetical order, are the 55 investigators affiliated with the UMH and the Institute of Neurosciences who are included in these lists, along with their respective scientific fields:
