The Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation and Volunteerism, in conjunction with the UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair, is holding on January 11, 2024 at 5 p.m. local time, a get together for people who have participated since 2011 in any of the first ten editions of the UMH volunteering program in Rwanda. This event aims to serve as a meeting point for people from different university areas (students, alumni, faculty & research personnel, administrative & services personnel, etc.) who all share something in common: having undergone the enriching experience of participating as a volunteer in this Central African country as part of the UMH cooperation program that the UMH has been running there for over 20 years.
This event will also serve as a promotional chat about the upcoming UMH volunteer edition for summer 2024. This meeting will share some key dates about the next volunteering edition in Rwanda, so we encourage the entire university community who is interested in participating in the 11th edition of the program to attend this meeting to obtain information about the call. As is standard operating procedure, the UMH covers the travel costs to and from this African country for the university community members who are chosen for the program. The program dates are for summer, usually July – September, and the program aims to provide training plus social and health assistance for the local Rwandan population, however the intention is for this edition to incorporate some new features.
The get together will begin with a brief presentation by the Vice Rectorate for Internationalization and Cooperation, the Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation and Volunteerism, as well as the UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair. Following this is an informative chat about the volunteering program, and it will include the presence of Dr. Mariano Pérez Arroyo, MD, who is the biggest promotor of the volunteer program, accompanied by former volunteers from prior editions of the program. Moderating the chat is Lis Gaibar, who is currently the volunteer program’s coordinator. After the chat, a video will be shown to highlight the UMH actions in Rwanda, and during this, intervention and participation by the public present is encouraged. After this, a guided visit will show off the recently inaugurated UMH exhibit, “UMH in Rwanda,” at the UMH facilities of the Plaça de Baix in Elche. Everybody in attendance is encouraged to ask questions and resolve any doubts they may have about the UMH involvement in Rwanda.
This event is open to the public and only limited to the seating capacity of this space.
