Summer 2020 Call

21 March 2024

The Unit of Development Cooperation and Volunteerism, together with the Vice Rectorate for International Relations at the UMH, have made the decision to SUSPEND the Volunteer Program in Rwanda during 2020. This is partly due to the Covid-19 health crisis, and the uncertainty this is causing regarding the time when greater normalcy returns that would enable the UMH to properly manage the call. This decision is also due to the UMH not wanting to spread the virus further in Rwanda.

Nonetheless, the university has managed to perform other functions to help the Rwandan people to protect themselves against Covid-19 in and around Nemba, Rwanda. These include:

May 19. The Miguel Hernández University of Elche sends Rwanda goggles and protective screens to protect health personnel at Nemba Hospital to protect themselves against Covid-19.

May 8. The UMH, aiming to combat Covid-19, is going to expand and modernize the UCI at Nemba Hospital. This will affect seven beds, preparing them to monitor critical patients and administer oxygen to them.

Rectoral Resolution 0650/2020. This decision hereby suspends the call for the tenth edition of the International Development Cooperation Volunteering Program by the UMH in Rwanda.

As a state of alarm has been declared by the Government of Spain in Royal Decree 462/202, of 14 March, to manage the situation of the Covid-19 health crisis, and to properly deal with the measures established therein, in addition to those established by the Generalitat Valenciana regional government, movement by both students and academic faculty, as well as all general educational activities, are hereby suspended.
