UMH STRENGTHENS RESEARCH ALLIANCES WITH TWO CHINESE UNIVERSITIES

The Vice Rector for International Relations at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, Vicente Micol, met with a delegation of professors from two Chinese universities, Beijing Forestry University and the Shandong Academy of Forestry, to establish collaboration agreements. The aim of this action is to carry out joint programs & research and to undergo exchanges of personnel and students.

Their visit is part of the framework of an international project for the genetic improvement of forest species and their use in reforestation, and it included holding a minisymposium with participation by researchers from the UMH Institute of Bioengineering and the two Asian institutions.

Their workshop was organized by professor of genetics and researcher at the Institute of Bioengineering, José Manuel Pérez Pérez, who is director of the Genetics of Plant Regeneration and Reproductive Development research group at the UMH. During the past five years, this group has published 20 research papers related to processes of organogenesis during the regeneration of plant tissues.

The results obtained by this research group will serve to optimize plant propagation of new varieties, obtaining higher yields and adapted to adverse environmental conditions, that were developed at the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Tree Breeding by Molecular Design at Beijing Forestry University.
