December 5 marks International Volunteer Day, and we wanted to commemorate this date with a special program from the lecture hall in the Plaça de Baix of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH).

This program was part of the 18^th Volunteerism Promotion Workshops that the UMH organizes through its Vice Rectorate for International Relations and the Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation and Volunteerism.

Over the course of two hours, we chatted with Vicente Micol, Vice Rector for International Relations, on the state of volunteering at the UMH, as well as with Inmaculada Blaya, the director of the Service of International Relations, Development Cooperation and Volunteerism, about the latest on the volunteering program in Rwanda. Other participants included Laura Parrilla, a technician from said service, who informed us about the telephone accompaniment program, The UMH Accompanies You; and colleagues from the UMH Environmental and Sustainable Development Area told us about the full range of possibilities they offer in relation to environmental engineering.

What’s more, Josué Cerdán, a technician from the Council of Development Cooperation and Volunteerism at the Elche City Hall, highlighted the work that this public body carries out. And Miguel León, a representative from the Valencian Coordinator of NGOs, explained in detail how the Coordinator functions and the values that drive its actions.

To conclude, a roundtable was held with volunteers, and they shared their experiences related to volunteering. We would like to thank the entities of the Elche Red Cross, Entrepobles, Oxfam Intermón, Solidaridad Internacional del País Valenciano (SIPV), and Visión Solidaria for their interventions in this roundtable.
