The “Economic Impact Study of a Business Park in the Region of Holguín, Cuba” research project examines the financial repercussions of the Holguín Business Park on that region’s economics, and it also strives to foster Sustainable Development Goal 8 (promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth), SDG 9 (build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation), and SDG 10 (reduce inequality within and among countries of Latin America and the Caribbean).
Participants in this project include UMH professor, Luis Francisco Brotons, and professor and manager of the project, Carmen Victoria Escolano. Representatives from the University of Holgín are professor Jenny Ruiz de la Peña, along with professor Ana de Lourdes Torralbas Blazquéz, who is the leader for the creation of the Business Park in Holguin.
This project began in October 2021, and it has since completed several activities. Standing out among these is the reunion held with representatives from the Cuban Ministry of Industry, Its Ministry of Science and Technology, university faculty, business leaders, and other financial stakeholders from the park. In the meeting, ideas were shared and there was reflection on the profile that the Holguín Business Park should acquire to aid in its promotion. During the meeting, the UMH faculty presented the main indicators and characteristics that Spanish scientific and technological parks possess, which may be of help to lay the foundations for the future Scientific and Technological Park of Holguín.
The researchers are currently conducting surveys from business leaders and stakeholders of the Cuban park to determine its needs and to efficiently outline the creation of the Holguín business park.
This project was one of those selected in the call for international research projects to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals from the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations that was announced by the UMH and funded by the Generalitat Valenciana Regional Government.
