UMH VOLUNTEERS IN RWANDA, WINNERS OF THE UMH CHAIR AWARD

The Board of Trustees at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has recognized the work by more than one hundred volunteers who have participated in the UMH Cooperation program in Rwanda during the six years of its existence by presenting them with its UMH Chair Award in this year’s Board of Trustees Awards. All the volunteers are or have been linked to the UMH in some way (including students, alumni, faculty, and staff), and each has completed at least one stay of approximately one month in the African country in the volunteering program that is managed by the UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair.

The award was accepted yesterday by a group of volunteers in the ceremony held in the Auditorium of the Rectorado & Consejo Social building. Volunteers Juan José Ballesta, a UMH associate professor of pharmacology, and Darío Gómez, a Master’s in General Health Psychology student, gave emotional acceptance speeches in which they appreciated the recognition on behalf of all volunteers, emphasized the good work done by the UMH Headquarters in Rwanda Chair, and expressed the enormous significance that this program has meant for the personal development of each one of them.
