UMH takes part in 22nd Meeting of Rectors of the Tordesillas Group

In November 2023, the 22nd Meeting of Rectors of the Tordesillas Group was held at the University of Brasilia, under the slogan of “The Role of Universities in Socio-economic Development.” This event was organized by the Tordesillas Group with the aim of facilitating exchanges of successful experiences, the presentation of innovative endeavors, and the formulation of collaborative initiatives.

The fundamental purpose of the meeting was to stimulate the generation and transfer of scientific and academic knowledge to foster socioeconomic development and improve the quality of life within different societies. Its inaugural session was presented by Márcia Abrahão Moura, Rector of the University of Brasilia, while the welcome message was given by José Antonio Sanahuja, director of the Carolina Foundation.

Representing the Miguel Hernández University of Elche at this event was Maria Pastor Valero, who is Director of International Graduate Programs. During her intervention, she shared the results achieved over the past year by the Tordesillas Doctoral College, a group that operated under coordination by the UMH since 2018.

The representatives of the 40 universities attending the 22nd Meeting were welcomed by the embassies of both Spain and Portugal, as well as by the director of CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel).

During the meeting at the CAPES Brasilia facilities, work sessions convened with the objective of designing strategic promotion policies aimed at boosting academic and scientific internationalization of the Tordesillas Group.

The active participation by the embassies and CAPES in this process underscores the governmental and academic commitment in the promotion of international cooperation and excellence in higher education, key elements to advance research and socio-economic progress worldwide.

Participation at this meeting highlights the continued commitment by the Miguel Hernández University of Elche in the international academic realm and the framework of the interuniversity collaboration of the Tordesillas Group.
